Sydney here. Great to see more Australians picking it up.
There must be some point in the growth of a successful technology when users start sharing their locations, until eventually it''s assumed that lots of local people are using it. It probably happened on some Linux mailing list when Linux started to grow.
Same here. Perhaps getting together for beer and rails discussion might be a good plan. Andrew Stuart wrote:>melbourne too > >

I''m in Sydney along with another bunch of ThoughtWorkers (everyone knows we Fowlerbots are suckers for Ruby). I would recommend any Sydneysiders to come along to SyXPAC (weekly, http://syxpac.org/) or the Sydney Ruby user group (monthly, join the mailing list to get the next time, http://www.rubygarden.org/ruby?SydneyGroup). I''m open to other suggestions of meeting up. Anyone working on Ruby on Rails projects in Australia? For instance one of the authors of Watir seems to be a thoughtworker, CruiseControl.Net (continuous integration for the .net platform) is mainly backed up by thoughtworkers too, and uncle Martin seems to have been in love with ruby for quite a long time! A bunch of people seem to have added themselves to the Melbourne Ruby meetup group at: http://ruby.meetup.com/4/ However, there''s no organiser and thus no event (on meetup.com, the organiser pays for the privilage of the group using the site). I think that meetup.com is a very clever site, but their fees are way too steep for me to want to become that organiser. However, I''m happy to organise a melbourne get together via other means if folks are interested. Perhaps via a yahoo group or something. The service I''m currently building (using Rails) would be perfect for organising a little group like this. We''re still in early alpha and it''s all top secret (shhh!), but it should be OK to use. I''ll check with my colleagues and send something around to all the Melbourne people in the next couple of days.
