I''ve configured rails to work with fcgi on IIS. It is taking a long time to display an initial page. ( 25 - 40 seconds). Calling ruby from the command prompt produces the same delay. Does anyone have an idea what''s causing this, and how to fix it. It seems to be specific to Windows Server 2003. Running WEBRick on Windows Advanced Server 2000 only has a 5- 10 second delay. -- Best Regards, -Larry "Work, work, work...there is no satisfactory alternative." --- E.Taft Benson _______________________________________________ Rails mailing list Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails

I had a weird problem where installing to any non-primary partition (i.e. not C:) caused it to slow down significantly. If it''s not on C:, try reinstalling and running it from there. Don''t ask me why, makes no sense to me. Mine was even the same physical HD. But it went from 20+ seconds to ruby -v to practically instantaneous moving it from D: to C:. Go figure. Ruby was installed on the C: drive. Re-installed it anyway. Don''t know whether that made a speed difference yet, ''cause now I have a ''unable to start fastcgi server'' error, I need to resolve first. -L On 8/16/05, Brock Weaver <brockweaver-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org> wrote:> > I had a weird problem where installing to any non-primary partition > (i.e. not C:) caused it to slow down significantly. The Slowness in displaying web pages appears to be with starting up Ruby. Running ruby -v script/server shows it loading all the modules, but with a few seconds delay between some of them. I''m not seeing a long pause at any one point. But, all these ''seconds'' add up to a 40 second delay before Ruby starts processing the script. In order to identify the problem, I have built a lab machine: ( 700 mhz AMD, .5gb RAM ide hard drive). Installed Server 2003, ruby, rails. IIS6. Created a test app. Running ruby -v script/server starts WEBRick in 8 seconds. Next, I applied SP1 and all patches. Rebooted. This time WEBRick started in 12 seconds the first time. Re-starting WEBRick produced 8-9 second starts. So far, I cannot reproduce the problem, yet. The lab machine runs 5 times faster, and is 1/4 the speed and memory of the dev box. Granted, I haven''t installed Sql Server yet, ( SS2000- dev won''t instal on Windows 2003). But, I have installed ruby, SS2000, IIS on XP pro, without experiencing a long start delay. Larry, Did you determine what the cause of this error was? I am trying to setup Rails with IIS and Windows 2000, (IIS 5 I believe) and I''m running into that error - "Server Error, unable to connect to fastcgi server." and I haven''t been able to get passed that. Thanks, Scott Becker On 8/17/05, Larry Kelly <ldk2005-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org> wrote:> > > On 8/17/05, Larry Kelly <ldk2005-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org> wrote: > > Ruby was installed on the C: drive.
