To those of you who''ve read my "Ajax on Rails" article at: http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2005/06/09/rails_ajax.html I really like to get this slashdotted in my ongoing effort to get more exposure for Ruby and Rails. I made a submission myself, but that''s no guarantee that it''ll get approved and posted. If more of you also submit this, I think it will increase the chances of success. If you''d like to do so, just go here: http://slashdot.org/submit.pl Curt

I''m guessing there were quite a few of you, since there were enough anonymous diggs that I was actually accused of anonymously digging my own posting! :-S I''ve also just submitted it to Slashdot, so we''ll see what happens there. :-) Cheers, ~Dave -- Dave Silvester Rent-A-Monkey Website Development Web: http://www.rentamonkey.com/

This should really help keep the Rails awareness level high in the deverlop community. Thanks to all who helped get this on digg.com and slashdot. Curt

Yes, but where I work, you should see what kind of invectives get thrown around when "Ruby" and scripting languages get tossed about in general. The hated language du jour righ tnow is PHP. Java is the preferred platform of self torture. It doesn''t help that the company is transitioning to a mostly Oracle shop: Oracle Financials, etc., and most corporate MIS development will revolve around that... JDeveloper, Oracle Portal, etc. I''m glad I''m just a contractor there. JDeveloper, Oracle Portal, etc.As I''ve been saying since at least 2000, Java is Cobol 2.0. Much of that was done in Cobol previously; new implementations are in Java. This isn''t necessarily a Bad Thing (tm), just part of the evolution. I don''t expect it''ll move off of Java for another 40 years. :) Anyhow, hello everyone, I''m new to rails. I''ve had the beta book since around the 6th (thanks Dave!) and have been foolish enough to commit to doing a large project in rails before actually learning it. People on #rubyonrails have been very tolerant of my bleatings for help. I really like what I''ve seen so far of Ajax, but it''ll be a while before I implement it on my rails apps. So thanks for the article, too. :) -- _Deirdre http://deirdre.net "Cannot run out of time. There is infinite time. You are finite. Zathras is finite. This....is wrong tool." -- Zathras

While Ruby isn''t the end of all languages, I do see a similar pattern in how Java became what it is today. I can''t be sure about it, but Rails certainly has a fair shot at it.> Corey''s post inspired me to write an entry in my blog: > > http://inquirylabs.com/blog/?p=8 > > It''s people like us who have a passion for what we do that influence > tomorrow''s business decisions. While Ruby isn''t the end of all languages, I > do see a similar pattern in how Java became what it is today.I agree with your conclusion, that''s what I had in mind when I made the first post. I was reading about how small circles of passionate people can have a big impact, and even smaller circles of ''connected'' people can have an even bigger impact. The magic happens when the two groups cross paths. If Rails had a publicly traded stock, I''d say buy!> Duane Johnson > (canadaduane) > > > > _______________________________________________ > Rails mailing list > Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org > http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails > > >-- Bill Guindon (aka aGorilla)
