Hi all, I''m a software developer from New Zealand. I''ve built a couple of rails sites and have some ajax experience. I''d like to develop on a rails site with the aim of making a business - is anyone else looking to do the same? The two rails sites I built recently are foopad.com and friendr.com. Regards, Ben
Hi, Well I''m working towards a similar thing at the moment - been a CRM Application Support Specialist for around 8 years, started developing a bug tracking system in Rails and love it, and am looking to start a company writing bespoke applications using Rails here in the UK. Anyone else doing something similar, any advice to offer about how to go about it? Cheers Kevin> Hi all, > > I''m a software developer from New Zealand. Ben, I''ve been kicking around a few ideas, nothing online yet though. I had some issues getting my mind around Rails/MVC until I started reading Dave''s book. I have been kicking around a few ideas, the one I have been spending most of my time on though is analyzing patterns from search engines. I collect data from different engines and have started comparing the results and consistency. Some search engines are very fickle concerning the data input or the results will be different for two searches on the same text in a short time window. I''ve also been looking into patterns concerning inbound/outbound links in a given industry, TLD or site. If you ever want to brainstorm ideas let me know, Wayne On 6/9/05, Ripcord Technology <ripcord-tH0n/LiDeu9BWQWeTLFoew@public.gmane.org> wrote:> Hi all, > > I''m a software developer from New Zealand. What would be the legalities of forking the open version of SugarCRM to Rails? SugarCRM is written in PHP+MySQL... From memory there''s nzkoz(me), bdash, elegant & bitserf.> The two rails sites I built recently are foopad.com and friendr.com. > > Regards, > Ben > _______________________________________________ > Rails mailing list > Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org > http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails >-- Cheers Koz
Erm, none I don''t imagine ... if it''s licensed under an open source license there''s nothing to stop it being forked/ported to another language. Something I''ve been toying around with, though I''m looking at following more the design of SalesLogix (http://www.saleslogix.com/) as that''s what I''ve developed for for the past 8 years :) Cheers Kevin> What would be the legalities of forking the open version of SugarCRM > to Rails? I''m especially interested in a rails version of crm software -- whether it''s a port of sugarcrm or saleslogic or something else. I work with a lot of US nonprofit organizations that would really benefit from moving to this type of approach (a membership database that is crm oriented and can be deployed in a modular way) that would be fast and easy to modify.
