Hi everyone! Here''s a quick introduction from me, as I''ve just joined your list. I''m a freelance web developer based in Nottingham UK, have been doing sites in PHP for about 4 years now (1 year as freelance), finally about to make the jump to Rails on a commercial project, and can''t wait to get my hands dirty! It''s a car park booking system for a small international airport (who''s main site I also recently built), and will feature online booking, a couple of different back ends, management reports and statistics generation, car park space management facilities etc. I guess I''ll probably have a few questions on the way, but from my first round of experimentation in Rails, I''m already feeling pretty confident about it and raring to go! So, with (hopefully) my "final" PHP project nearly done, all I have to do now is wait for the docs to be signed off on the parking site, which should be sometime next week. Anyway, that''s all for now... you''ll probably witness some inane rambling from me at some point soon, for which I must apologise in advance! ;-) Cheers, ~Dave -- Dave Silvester Rent-A-Monkey Website Development Web: http://www.rentamonkey.com/
If you get the Rails book, that''ll probably answer most of your questions. Not sure my eyes can handle reading that much stuff from a PDF though, so at the moment I''ve been waiting for the paper version to come out, although I''m daily toying with the idea of just laying down the cash for the combo pack and having done with it. I''ve got a paycheque coming in within the next few days, so the Rails book is certainly high on the list of priorities, and I''m probably too impatient to wait until July! At the moment, I''m enjoying reading the Pickaxe - strange how a coding book can be fun to read, no? I haven''t encountered that before except with Zeldman''s "Designing With Web Standards", which is also a good read. I found #rubyonrails to be a very helpful IRC channel too! :-D ~Dave -- Dave Silvester Rent-A-Monkey Website Development Web: http://www.rentamonkey.com/
