Hello, I''ve set up an installation of my project, eXPlain Project Management Tool (http://explainpmt.com), at http://railsday.explainpmt.com. If anyone would like to use eXPlainPMT to plan their team''s RailsDay project, just shoot me an email (off list) with the name you want for your project and the email addresses and desired usernames and passwords for your project teams members. Of course, you could always download and install eXPlainPMT on your own system (http://rubyforge.org/projects/explainpmt) -- this is just intended for those who might not want to bother with that. Again, I''m not charging for this, so just shoot me an email if you''re interested. -- Regards, John Wilger ----------- Alice came to a fork in the road. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat. "I don''t know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn''t matter." - Lewis Carrol, Alice in Wonderland

I''d love to get official word from the Railsday folks, though. It''s never been entirely clear just how much we''re allowed to do before-hand. Ben

No digital mockups any more complex than a " paper napkin drawing are allowed before the competition begins. Since eXPlainPMT just supports plain-text story cards, this would probably qualify as not being "any more complex than a paper napkin drawing" rule. If the judges could clarify whether pre-planning with this tool is allowed or not, that would be great. If it''s _not_ allowed, I can easily set up the projects and accounts in a non-public database and just activate them on the day of the contest. -- Regards, John Wilger ----------- Alice came to a fork in the road. It doesn''t say anything at all about design documentation. Yeah, db diagrams are a subset thereof, but it''s enough to make me nervous. I''ve kept myself to a couple of vague bubble-style db sketches in my notebook, just to play it safe. I wish there had been better information about what was and wasn''t allowed, but 10 days before the contest is pretty well too late to tell people they can''t do what they''ve already done. Here''s hoping we get some clarification! Ben

All it captures is what we want to build, not how we are building it. But I agree, it would be nice to get a ruling from the contest runners on this issue. -- -- Jim Weirich jim-Fxty1mrVU9GlFc2d6oM/ew@public.gmane.org http://onestepback.org ----------------------------------------------------------------- "Beware of bugs in the above code; I have only proved it correct, not tried it." -- Donald Knuth (in a memo to Peter van Emde Boas)
