write shorter lines.  use \ to make longs lines span multiple shorter lines.

ex:
irb(main):001:0> puts ''this would be'' \
irb(main):002:0* + '' treated as'' \
irb(main):003:0* + '' one line''
this would be treated as one line

I''m having same problems too. Its a known readline related issue
tracked by One-Click Installer bug database, but still with no real
solutions available. See bugs #876, #1366. Readline support is simply
broken, not just irb prompts but also ruby debugger is affected.

I tried to mitigate with writing shorter lines, reducing command
window size to 25x80 (that is windows default) but will not work
always. Also tab completion sometimes segfaults. It'' very sad. Luckily
I wont have to endure it longer, as I''m slowly moving all my
development efforts away from Windows. For example on Linux readline
works like a charm.
