Rails spinoffs - Sep 2006 - no setClassName or removeAllClassNames in prototype - why?

Often I have the need to set one class name to an element. I don''t care
what was there before, just remove it and set it to the new class. I
don''t see any easy way to remove all the class names or to set just one
class name. Why is this?

Clearing all class names:

- elt.className = '''';

Setting the class to a specific set:

- elt.className = ''whatever_you_need'';

That''s what the className DOM attribute is FOR.  Most people fumble
with
*not* erasing the whole thing, and manipulating its individual class
components (which is what Element.ClassNames is for).
