Hi, there already had been a Tooltips implementation [1] but i wasn''t to happy with that one, not only because they didn''t support simple mouse-hover tooltips (just as they appear when you are using title attributes) But writting this lib was also a good way to get into script.aculo.us and prototype.js. (and i can''t say how impressed i am) So here it is: An all new Tooltips.js http://static.twoday.net/matsblog/stuff/Tooltip/Tooltip.Demo.html Source available via: http://static.twoday.net/matsblog/stuff/Tooltip Currently the script has version 0.3 and depends on some changes in script.aculo.us and prototype. My goal is to get a version 1.0 released, that is compatible with the next scriptaculous realease. In the meantime i would be happy about any feedback and/or testing. Please dig into the code to learn, what the various actions do. The basic structure is: * Tooltip Class (representing a single trigger-popUp pair, handles setup/show/hide) * TooltipFactory Class (provides a framework for finding and initializing tooltips in a site by finding them via style selector) * Tooltips, ActionHints, SectionTriggers which are implementations of TooltipFactory -> This is the most interesting part, if you want to use tooltips or want to implement your own flavor of tooltips. greets matthias [1] http://tooltip.crtx.org/ -- knallgrau new media solutions gmbh pezzlgasse 7, 1190 vienna phone: +43 - 1 - 522 76 37 fax: +43 - 1 - 522 76 38 http://www.knallgrau.at/company/weblog
This would be great if you could bundle in all the functionality of domTT (what I and many others consider the crem de la crem of tooltip libs)... check it out (http://www.mojavelinux.com/cooker/demos/domTT/)... Yours needs some options like "greasy" vs. "sticky"... where they show up relative to the element or the mouse cursor...etc... but it''s definitely getting there. -----Original Message----- From: rails-spinoffs-bounces-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org [mailto:rails-spinoffs-bounces-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org] On Behalf Of Matthias Platzer Sent: Monday, January 23, 2006 11:23 AM To: rails-spinoffs-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org Subject: [Rails-spinoffs] Tooltips.js Hi, there already had been a Tooltips implementation [1] but i wasn''t to happy with that one, not only because they didn''t support simple mouse-hover tooltips (just as they appear when you are using title attributes) But writting this lib was also a good way to get into script.aculo.us and prototype.js. Hi, thanks for the pointer. hiding form elements on IE is yet missing, but many of the other variants are possible just by adapting the options. it''s a good question where to draw the line and let people implement their own flavor of tooltips instead of providing every possible case. but anyway domTT is good starting point - i will look into that. matthias Ryan Gahl schrieb:> This would be great if you could bundle in all the functionality of > domTT (what I and many others consider the crem de la crem of tooltip > libs)... check it out > (http://www.mojavelinux.com/cooker/demos/domTT/)... > > Yours needs some options like "greasy" vs. "sticky"... where they show > up relative to the element or the mouse cursor...etc... but it''s > definitely getting there. > > -----Original Message----- > From: rails-spinoffs-bounces-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org > [mailto:rails-spinoffs-bounces-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org] On Behalf Of > Matthias Platzer > Sent: Monday, January 23, 2006 11:23 AM > To: rails-spinoffs-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org > Subject: [Rails-spinoffs] Tooltips.js > > > Hi, > > there already had been a Tooltips implementation [1] but i wasn''t to > happy with that one, not only because they didn''t support simple > mouse-hover tooltips (just as they appear when you are using title > attributes) > > But writting this lib was also a good way to get into script.aculo.us > and prototype.js. Hi i wrote that lib too in the last weekend, but only today see your email download it here: http://www.pdvel.com/stuff/js/tooltip/tooltip.js you can view and test the demo at: http://www.pdvel.com/stuff/js/tooltip/ On Mon, 2006-01-23 at 18:23 +0100, Matthias Platzer wrote:> Hi, > > there already had been a Tooltips implementation [1] but i wasn''t to > happy with that one, not only because they didn''t support simple > mouse-hover tooltips (just as they appear when you are using title > attributes) > > But writting this lib was also a good way to get into script.aculo.us > and prototype.js. Hi Claudio, looks interesting. i think both libs have their advantages. would you be interested to pick the best of both and merge them? i would. some comments on yours: i extracted positioning from the Tooltip "Class" to be more flexible, but probably some positioning code should stay there. options.where is a good way to describe the position. there could also be an option, if the tooltip should follow the mouse or not. the reason why i extracted it was, that an implementation/usage should be able to position the tooltip anywhere (provide their own setPosition function). you are starting/stopping EventObservers on activate/deactivate -> this seems to work pretty well in your script. - to be honest i didn''t manage to integrate this into my script at first. but i should. greets matthias Claudio Gamboa schrieb:> Hi > i wrote that lib too in the last weekend, but only today see your email > > download it here: > http://www.pdvel.com/stuff/js/tooltip/tooltip.js > > > you can view and test the demo at: > http://www.pdvel.com/stuff/js/tooltip/ > > > > > > > On Mon, 2006-01-23 at 18:23 +0100, Matthias Platzer wrote: >> Hi, >> >> there already had been a Tooltips implementation [1] but i wasn''t to >> happy with that one, not only because they didn''t support simple >> mouse-hover tooltips (just as they appear when you are using title >> attributes) >> >> But writting this lib was also a good way to get into script.aculo.us >> and prototype.js. Hi, I was going to use the AJAX.PeriodicalUpdater to implement a progress bar. However, how do I send a command to stop it from executing on completion (i.e. reaching 100%) Deco
