Hi folks, I was able to track down the problems I had with xemacs / ESS / cygwin / MS W2000 to the file "essd-r.el" in the ESS 5.1.18 package. ESS seems to think, it is running in a complete Unix environment and sends the wrong command line option ("--no-readline" instead of "--ess") to the MS W2000 executable "Rterm.exe". My temporary patch looks as follows (not a general solution!) ; essd-r.el ;; ... some code ... ;; R that does the right thing irregardless of OS. ;; ... more code ... (let* ((r-always-arg ;; replaced the following due to problems on cygwin / MS W2000 ; (if (or (equal window-system 'w32) (equal window-system 'win32)) ; "--ess " ; "--no-readline " ) "--ess " ; <Mirko.Luedde at CellControl.De> ) ;; ... even more code ... Of course, using MS W2000 executables in a cygwin / XEmacs / ESS environment is cheating, so I deserved right ;-) By the way, I'm also facing problems compiling the R source on cygwin. The preprocessor symbol "Win32" seems to be defined and seems to disturb some ".h" and ".c" files. Do you have any suggestions on compiling R on cygwin / W2000? Cheers, Mirko. -- Dr. M.
