r-mode (ESS/XEmacs)
Hello, please excuse me if this is not the appropriate mailing list, but I'll give it a try! I recently switched from using Emacs 20.7.1 to XEmacs 21.4, both on cygwin / MS W2K. On Emacs the ESS 5.1.17 was working well, but now, when calling R from within XEmacs, it first asks for the working directory, then says "R process is not running". The ESS buffer holds the

help: exponential fit?
Hi there, I'm quite new to R (and statistics), and I like it (both)! But I'm a bit lost in all these packages, so could someone please give me a hint whether there exists a package for fitting exponential curves (of the type t --> \sum_i a_i \exp( - b_i t)) on a noisy signal? In fact monoexponential decay + polynomial growth is what I'd like to try. Thanks in advance,

AW: binom.test appropriate?
No, since I'd like to test null: p <= p0 alternative: p > p0. and my understanding is that binom.test tests null: p = p0 (can only be a "simple" null hypothesis according to help(binom.test)) alternative: p > p0 (or p < p0 or p != p0). binom.test appropriate?
Hi there, as part of a 2 x 2 contingency table analysis I would like to estimate conditional probabilities (success rates) in a Bernoulli experiment. In particular I want to test a null hypothesis p <= p0 versus the alternative hypothesis p > p0. As far as I understand the subject, there are UMPU tests for these types of hypotheses. Now I know about R's "binom.test" but the

how to find a row index in a matrix or a data frame ?
Dear all, this looks pretty much a standard problem, but I couldn't find a satisfying and understandable solution. (A) Given a data frame (or matrix), e.g. x <- data.frame(A=c(1, 2, 2), B=c(4, 5, 5)) and a row of this data frame, e.g. r <- c(2, 5) I need to find one row index i (or all such indices) such that r is at the i-th row in x, that is, the

R-alpha: R interaction within ESS-4.9-b11: two small issues
1) I installed the latest ESS (Emacs Speaks Statistics) beta release on a machine running Linux. Since there is no S-PLUS product for Linux, I set the ess-site.el file for R, xlisp-stat, and S version 4. nls newbie: help approximating Weibull distribution
Hi folks, I tried to retain the Weibull distribution using the `nls' function and proceeding along the lines of the example provided in the `SSweibull' help (at least I thought so): t <- (1:200)/100 v <- pweibull(t, shape=3, scale=1) df <- data.frame(Time=t, Value=v) Asym <- 1.0; Drop <- 1.0; lrc <- 0; pwr <- 1 df.estimate <- nls(Value ~ SSweibull(Time,

rw-faq clarification + simple question + bug(?)
Windows users note: the rw-faq says |1.8) Can I use rw0xx with ESS and emacs? | |Yes. Some time soon versions of ESS (5.1.3 has a `somewhat rough' |prototype for rw0632) will come with support for this version of R. Dovecot does not access /var/mail when using Maildir
Hello, I'm running debain on my machine with postfix, squirrelmail and dovecot installed. Everything works fine and I'm able to access my mail via squirrelmail and via Outlook with imap. However I want to create subfolders what is not possible. After reading I discovered that I use mbox and that maildir is needed in order to be able to use subfolders. I have created a Maildir folder with

[Bridge] recent 2.6 kernels hang on bridge shutdown - solved
Folks, For what it's worth I used to have the hang at shutdown with brnf and kernel 2.4.26. An fsck on the boot drive fixed it (telling me it had nothing to do with whatever kernel I was running)...have you tried that? Deliver/LDA, no data in the logs, even with debug set (dovecot + qmail-ldap), and sieve issue
Hi, I am trying to integrate sieve with qmail-ldap. I can't get it to work, and deliver isn't logging anything to the log files (or syslog, if selected). Hence I have got no way to diagnose the problem. Any help appreciated. *root at debtwo:~# dovecot --version* 1.2.13 *root at debtwo:~# dovecot -n* # 1.2.13: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf # OS: Linux 2.6.32-3-686 i686 Debian squeeze/sid

A hint to start ESS-xemacs
I'm trying to use ESS & xemacs under debian linux testing and KDE. My problem is that I didn't find any document in the internet explaining a **step by step** session with R and xemacs. The (wrong) procedure I follow (to no avail!) is: 1) I start R in a terminal window; 2) I start xemacs and open a file with the extension .R (test.R); 3) I issue M-x R RET and I can see an Rd new

t-test for standard deviations
Dear R-users, I am new to the list and I would like to submit (probably!!!!) a stupid question: I found in a paper a reference to a t-test for the evaluationg the difference between the standard deviations of 2 samples. This test is performed in the paper but the methodology is not explained and any reference is reported. Does anyone know where I can find references to this test and if it is
