Currently, no. It used to work (almost), but the conditionalization in
the source got removed at some point. It's not too hard to strip out
the offending bits by hand, but it may be easier simply to install the
relevant X headers and libraries. It will *run* OK without the
X-display (minus the graphics windows, of course)
In the longer run, we should get that put back in, since it is also
needed for cross-platform development if we are to maintain a unified
source tree.
