This example works in both R (and the proto-type)
> x<-1:10
> y<-2^(31)-1
> w<-x+y
> w==y
[1] F F F F F F F F F F> v<-as.integer(w)
> v==y
[1] T T T T T T T T T T
I expect that there should be a warning when as.integer truncates by more
than 1.......
