Puppet users - Sep 2014 - Can Exec notify File?

I need to have an Exec command notify a File block only to run if the Exec 
is true. Is that possible?

  exec { "check_version":
    command => "/bin/echo 'versions differ'",
    unless  => "/usr/bin/test `/bin/cat VERSION.txt` =
\"1.0\"",
    notify  => File["/app_dir"],
  }

  # create app_dir only if versions differ
  file { /app_dir:
    recurse   => true,
    require   => [Exec["check_version"],
    source    => "puppet:///modules/app/versions/1.0",
    subscribe => Exec["check_version"],
  }

Is this possible?
