[Ocfs2-users] Is the order important when installing ocfs2 and Oracle RAC?
Is the order important when installing ocfs2 and Oracle RAC? If you have an existing RAC installation and you want to use ocfs2 for shared files but not for the OCR or Voting Disks, do you need to reinstall the Oracle Clusterware after installing OCFS2? My understanding is this: OCFS2 can be used without RAC. RAC needs either OCFS2 (some kind of 3rd party cluster) for OCR & Voting disks or ASM. If you plan to use ocfs2 to share filesystems this will not disturb clusterware ( well, more traffic in the interconnect, as natural ) Even in the case of need to use ocfs2 to give concurrency to an installed clusterware RAC, you will have downtime while reallocating crs/ocr destinations but can be done safely without reinstall. FYI: Is what you must do in case of clusterware 10gR2 on RHEL 5 and EMC Powerpath 5.1 storage Regards D. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... AS far as I understand, Nicholas asked if we have an existing RAC ( for example under ASM ) and in a point in time you want to use ocfs2 to share some filesystems ( comes to my mind the UTL_FILE_DIR ). If this assumption is correct, you can install/configure/use RAC with ASM and some time after you can install ocfs2 and configure it without touching nothing from RAC infrastructure/environment. D.
