Is the order important when installing ocfs2 and Oracle RAC?
Is the order important when installing ocfs2 and Oracle RAC? If you have an existing RAC installation and you want to use ocfs2 for shared files but not for the OCR or Voting Disks, do you need to reinstall the Oracle Clusterware after installing OCFS2? Question about increasing node slots
We have a test 10gR2 RAC cluster using ocfs2 filesystems for the Clusterware files and the Database files. We need to increase the node slots to accomodate new RAC nodes. Is it true that we will need to umount these filesystems for the upgrade (i.e. Database and Clusterware also)? We are planning to use the following command format to perform the node slot increase: # t...

mixed environment / why is setting up an oracle cluster on windows so hard?
hello everybody I successfully installed a *very* small two node cluster with a shared volume on linux (both debian, one x86, one ARM [laugh not: NSLU2 :)]). before that, I tried to install the "clusterware" package on my windows xp box and it constantly complained about the three different ip addresses it wanted to see, then I got so frustrated with numerous manual hosts-file changes, loopback adapter installations, and finally the installer not letting me do interface orderings myself (my &...

ocfs2 <-> 10G (10.2.01) Clusterware
RHEL 4 (CENT OS) Am I waisting my time trying to get the 10G Clusterware installer to use OCFS2 volumes for the voting and OCR disks ? The ocfs2 setup seems happy on both nodes but the 10G installer says the location entered for the oracle cluster registry (OCR) is not shared across all the nodes in the cluster Do the volumes need to mounted ? I did with no change...

Question about terminology
I'm having a minor disagreement with a colleague over terminology. When you have a group of KVM Hosts which have access to the same network and storage (for purposes of migration) yet there is no clusterware or HA software involved...how does one refer to this group of hosts? I call them a "Host Group." He insists on the term "Cluster." To me, "cluster" indicates the presence of an HA solution such as RHCS or VCS and using the term when neither exist would generate conf...

OCFS2 DLM problems
Hello everyone, once again. We are running into a problem, which has shown now 2 times, possible 3 (once the systems looked different.) The environment is 6 HP DL360/380 g5 servers with eth0 being the public interface, eth1 and bond0 (eth2 and eth3) used for clusterware and bond0 also used for OCFS2. The bond0 interface is in active/passive mode. There are no network errors counters showing and even during the problem we can communicate via the bond0 interface. This setup has been running for more then 2 months but last Wednesday morning and today again, we had 2...

mounted.ocfs2 -f return Unknown: Bad magic number in inode
Hello, I have installed ocfs2 without problem and use it for a RAC10gR2. Only Clusterware files are ocfs2 type. multipath is also used. When I issue : mounted.ocfs2 -f I have a strange result: Device FS Nodes /dev/sda ocfs2 Unknown: Bad magic number in inode /dev/sda1 ocfs2 pocrhel2, pocrhel1 /dev/sdb ocfs2 Not mounted /dev/sd...

re: o2hb_do_disk_heartbeat:963 ERROR: Device "sdb1" another node is heartbeating in our slot!
.../etc/ocfs2> ls /config/cluster/ocfs2/node/ dbo1 dbo2 dbo3 dbo4 dbt3 dbt4 So my question, is how do I permanently remove dbt3, dbt4 and dbo4 ? I checked out the ocfs2 guide, but it only has information on adding a node to both an online/offline cluster. More importantly is how the oracle clusterware behaved. After this happened, my ASM and RDBMS instances stayed up. None of the machines rebooted. But the CRS deamon appears to be having issues. When I run "crsctl check crs" on all 3 nodes, I get the error "Cannot communicate with CRS" on all 3 nodes. The cssd log directo...

Shutdown to single user mode causes SysRq Reset
...DL580 cluster supported by a Fibrechannel SAN with dual FC cards, dual switches and an HP EVA on the back end.? All SAN disks are multipathed.? Installed software is: Redhat 5.3 ocfs2-2.6.18-128.1.14.el5-1.4.2-1.el5 ocfs2-tools-1.4.2-1.el5 ocfs2console-1.4.2-1.el5 Oracle RAC 11g ASM Oracle RAC 11g Clusterware Oracle RAC 10g databases OCFS2 isn't being used by RAC, we're using ASM for that, but OCFS2 is used to provide a shared /usr/local, /home and /apps. ERROR: Could not find the storage" when running cluvfy against OCFS2-shared mount-points
Hello ocfs2 experts, OS is RHEL 2.6.9-78.0.13.ELsmp x86 With OCFS2 1.2.9 RDBMS/Clusterware s/w 10.2.0.1 Hoping someone can help me resolve the following error when running cluvfy to check ocfs2-shared storage. [Fwd: Shared Storage in xVM Opensolaris build 122]
Hi, I double checked the configuration with xm and the "w!" option seems to be configured :-( I also upgraded to build 123, but also no change in behaviour. Thus is this a RAC 11.2 problem or is there a general problem using zvols as as shared disks for xVM domains ? (device (vbd (protocol x86_64-abi) (uuid 048d282d-da4c-2e0b-b9f4-f3f4cc0811c7)

[Fwd: [Fwd: Shared Storage in xVM Opensolaris build 122]]
Hi, the diskmon issue in RAC 11.2 was a firewall issue. The clusterware is running OK now and also the new ACFS (ASM Cluster filesystem) seems to work properly using a shared ZFS volume. Cheers, Marc

Power Down ESXi before SAN
I have 2 APC UPS systems, one is connected to my ESXi host and the other to my FreeNAS. The battery for the FreeNAS will run out before the battery for the ESXi, so I need ESXi to shutdown first. If I wait until BatteryLow on ESXI, it will be too late as FreeNAS will have already shutdown. How can I change the configuration on ESXI to shutdown after a small delay so that it is done before

6 node cluster with unexplained reboots
...some SCSI errors where DM-MP is failing a path after get a 0x2000 error from the SAN controller, but the path gets puts back in service in less then 10 seconds. This needs to be fixed but I don't think it is what is causing our reboots. 2 of the nodes rebooted once while being idle (ocfs2 and clusterware were running, no db) and one node rebooted while idle (another node was copying using fscat our 9i db from ocfs1 to the ocfs2 data volume) and once while some load was put on it via the upgraded 10g database. In all cases it is as if someone a hardware reset button. No kernel panic (at least not on...

JBOD recommendation for ZFS usage
Dear all Sorry if it''s kind of off-topic for the list but after talking to lots of vendors I''m running out of ideas... We are looking for JBOD systems which (1) hold 20+ 3.3" SATA drives (2) are rack mountable (3) have all the nive hot-swap stuff (4) allow 2 hosts to connect via SAS (4+ lines per host) and see all available drives as disks, no RAID volume. In a

GlusterFS as underlying Replicated Disk for App Server
Hi All, We have a requirement for a common replicated filesystem between our two datacentres, mostly for DR and patching purposes when running Weblogic clusters. For those that are not acquainted, Weblogic has a persistent store that it uses for global transaction logs amongst other things. This store can be hosted on shared disk (usually NFS), or in recent versions within an Oracle DB.
