[Nut-upsuser] newhidups USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed: ret -110 messages
Dear List, I have an MGE Ellipse 1500. I run openSUSE 10.2, kernel 2.6.18, libusb 0.1.12, nut 2.0.5. ps shows that the following processes are running: /usr/lib/ups/driver/newhidups -a mgeups /usr/sbin/upsd -u root /usr/sbin/upsmon /usr/sbin/upsmon NUT operates correctly, shutting down the server after 4 minutes without power. However I'm seeing 25 to 50 messages logged each day in /var/log/messages of the form: Jun 21 16:11:40 pastis kernel: usb 3-1: usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed cmd newhidups rqt 128 rq 6 len 255 ret -110 Jun 21 16:46:29 pastis kernel: usb 3-1: usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed cmd newhidups rqt 161 rq 1 len 2 ret -110 I read in Arnaud's message http://www.mail-archive.com/nut-upsuser at lists.alioth.debian.org/msg00654.html> the -110 error is a timeout. what are your kernel and libusb versions? > What the frequency of these messages?> I've not seen that kind of msg for long, but it was generally due to a > temporary "deny of service" from the UPS, ie it's currently running a > self test while the driver request the complete data tree...Can I ignore these newhidups messages as "background noise"? I also run the mgeups-psp-3.0.2 front end which shows two or three "communication failures" each day lasting either 2 or 4 seconds. Can I ignore these messages as well? Roger
