Nut upsuser - Mar 2007 - Is newhidups driver still in memory just before o/s halt ?

Hi,

I have set-up the ups shutdown feature provided by Red Hat 
/etc/rc.d/init.d/halt script, which will issue a "upsdrvctl shutdown" 
command just before powering off the system.

It appears that this command fails as if the driver is not available.

I wonder whether the usb driver / stack is still available at this very 
late stage ?

If not available then does it mean one cannot shutdown the ups ?

The stack is still available, but the USB filesystem (/proc/bus/usb or
/dev/bus/usb) might have been unmounted. It is generally safe to
remount it, since it does not map to persistent storage.

Which RedHat version/distro are you working with?

You might be able to set a longer timeout and do the shutdown as a K99
init.d script. (Or K00, I forget how the shutdown order goes.)

Also, I think that certain scripts in /etc are marked as config files,
and will not be overwriiten (the rpm program just creates a .rpm-new
file or something)
