Hi
CFS has a (proprietary) product in beta called pCIFS which parallelizes IO
to multiple samba servers, accessing the Samba server intelligently, based
on the Lustre file layout. pCIFS is conceptually similar to pNFS
("files"
protocol). We believe that this can offer parallel IO while leveraging the
enormous amount of semantic work done by the Samba team to get the
client-server semantics correct. pCIFS is a filter driver over the CIFS
redirector in the NT client and works with un-modified (recent) Samba
servers.
We have also ported much of the Lustre client to Windows. At the moment it
seems like pCIFS is the more attractive product in the market, but that
could change, and we would be interested to learn more about this. There
are "in between" solutions, like extending pCIFS to do IO directly
with the
Lustre OST''s, bypassing Samba while continuing to use Samba for the
metadata
operations (this is like pNFS with the "object" protocol).
