I'm a bit curious: is there any reason why are other slides / videos not available (it seems that the ones missing are from Apple folks)? -- With best regards, Anton Korobeynikov Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, Saint Petersburg State University

Due to a meeting conflict I was unable to attend Dan's talk on ScalarEvolution, but it was one of the ones I was most interested in seeing given our interest in loop optimization. I also missed the beginning of Lang's talk on future register allocation work, which we also have a keen interest in. I expect a lot of people would be very interested in Nate's OpenCL talk as well, given the current interest in OpenCL and that it's a nice real-world example of LLVM usage. It would be great if an exception could be made for these somehow. I know there are others interested in seeing them as well who were unable to attend the meeting in person. Hi Chris, it would be good if "the powers that be" could be made to understand that if only Apple employees are not allowed to put up their slides while Apple is employing the core of the LLVM foundation, that this sends the absolute wrong message on openness of the project. It is also totally incompatible with the fantastic work you guys are doing and your tremendous presence on the (non Apple) uiuc mailings lists. At CERN we had already a number of people questioning the wisdom of basing our developments on LLVM as it is perceived as an Apple thing, that could turn on us at anytime, and this position does not help. Cheers, Fons. Even if it takes a while: not having them at all is very bad publicity for Apple. It proves (esp to people like GCC, but also colleagues here at CERN) that Apple is the wrong place to host an open source project, and that Apple is doing its best at diverting efforts into its proprietary domain. Don't get me wrong: I really appreciate Apple's efforts in hosting the workshop and paying 90% of the developers of LLVM! Cheers, Axel.
I was really looking forward to watching the presentation about Scalar Evolution, as it is something I use in my ongoing thesis work. I cannot possibly see how Apple would benefit from this policy. / Hans Chris Lattner wrote:> On Oct 15, 2009, at 8:29 AM, Anton Korobeynikov wrote: >> Hi, Chris >> >>> All of the videos are now up on the web page, and most of the slides >>> are up (still need to get David's and Evan's slides). Is there anyone we can email to express our displeasure at this decision, so that we might have some vague chance of having an impact? --Owen -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I note that there are still videos and slides up from Apple developers - including yourself - from previous dev meetings. If an exception was made in the past, is there a reason why it isn't being made again? David -- Send from my Jacquard Loom

Several Apple employees now have a leadership role in the LLVM community, although LLVM remains a widely used open source software project. Their presentations at the LLVM developers' meeting are an important component of how we help support LLVM users. The presentations clearly reveal no confidential Apple information; in fact, they were presented in front of a large number of external participants. While we appreciate Apple's continued support of LLVM and of the Developers' Meeting, the goodwill generated is being undermined by this policy to withhold important technical information from other LLVM users, and for little benefit to Apple. --Vikram Adve ---------------------------------------------------------------------- VIKRAM S.
