ruby bindings fail to build with ruby 1.8.7 because rb_alloc_func_t does not exist in this version of ruby. This happens due to commit 448a02373df95dafc0d4b3e4db0e77c96a09074d Olaf

The obvious AC_CHECK_TYPE([rb_alloc_func_t], [], [], [[#include <ruby.h>]]) doesn't work because you have to add /usr/include/x86_64-linux to the include path in order for <ruby/config.h> to be found (at least, that's the case on Fedora). The /usr/include/x86_64-linux path does not seem to be mentioned anywhere in RbConfig::CONFIG. It appears that this path is hard-coded in mkmf.
