Of course icecast being an open source project you are welcome to try yourself. Stephen -- LiveIce Project http://liveice.sourceforge.net/

I did this about a year and a half ago, and it was successful for many months, then suddenly my server's IP was banned from the Shoutcast YP servers... so I guess somehow they figured it out or I got ratted out. Shoutcast's YP is understandably for shout servers. Yes, Icecast has it's own YP server, but it suffers from the same thing that all of Xiph.org's products suffer from, and that is lack of promotion *coughOGGcough* and so will likely not be seen as the "internet radio mecca" that shoutcast YP is. /dale

The shoutcast people have (through their policy of banning people who do this) made it very clear that non-shoutcast servers aren't welcome on their directory listings. If we made icecast fake the appropriate responses, they'd just change the server to check something else, or ban all the sites using this feature - it wouldn't help for long. So we think it'd be a waste of time. Mike
