I have done some testing on wan with gluster. sorry to say that its
synchronous transfer and not async. this means that if you open/write a
file to your server it takes long time to open/write it because it waits
for the slowest server to finish... so if your Internet connection on
both both places is 10 mbit. your write to the server will also only be
10 mbit.
I went for a different solution, UNISON. much similar to god old rsync
but it can replicate both ways in one go.
