Thanks for the recommendation of Sox. It looks like a very good
program. I've been playing with it this evening. I have a couple of
terabytes of .aiff files to convert to .flac, and so far sox has been
working like a champ. (the --show-progress option was quite informative
and particularly welcome. :) )
