ogg123 playing 24bit flac
Hi! Recently I made some recordings (44.1kH/24bit WAV), and after post-processing (normalization, noide reduction) I saved them as flac (still 44.1kHz/24bit). I noticed that ogg123 can decode these, but it will output 24 bit only. Specifically there's no option to transform the output to 16bit. When trying to pipe the 24bit WAV output of ogg12...

16bit vs. 24bit
I bought this recently http://www.amazon.com/Tascam-US-100-USB-Audio-Interface/dp/B002QQC1ZI But i have been thinking maybe it would have been better to get a 24bit version http://tascam.com/product/us-600/images/ I guess i am streaming at a lower quality, but if i were recording the 24 bit would be better no? Thoughts? -winn -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/icecast/attachments/...

problem with eve-online and color depth (16/24bit)
Hello together! since some time i noticed that if i start eveonline in a explorer desktop window, with for ex. wine explorer /desktop=0,1680x1050 "C:\\Program Files\\CCP\\EVE\\eve.exe", my problem is now -> i can not switch in the game eveonline client to the 16bit windowmode (only 24bit are available) ! My Linux Gnome Desktop are running in a 1680x1050 24bpp mode. But if i start the game in fullscreen, i can switch then into 16bit and any resolution. (its weird) i dont now since when this happend, because i updated the nvidia driver and the wine version at the same time. :( i don...

flac in xiphqt seemengly behaves incorrectly playing 24bit files
Hello, upon installing flac1.2.1 and xiphqt0.1.9 component on a mac, 24bit flac files, whose integrity has been proven and which otherwise decode and reproduce flawlessly, play in quicktime player with wrong volume, i.e exactly 2^8 = 256 times too loud. I guess, the appropriate amplitude scaling routine might have been accidentally omitted somewhere in the code....

followup to flac and 24bit files in winamp 5.33 not working
...ut not tried it out yet (under 5.33). from nullsoft: Not sure what's wrong. But there is a new FLAC playback plugin coming for 5.34 - totally rewritten and not based on the FLAC reference plugin (but still using libFLAC, obviously!). I'll follow up with the plugin if you want to test the 24bit file there - just need to put together a quick installer for it. -- Why worry, there should be laughter after the pain There should be sunshine after rain These things have always been the same So why worry now

Sound Blaster Live! 24bit how to get it support?
Hi, I used to use the onboard sound card(SIS) and it work well with centos 4 stock and unsupported kernel. I have just got a new Sound Blaster Live! 24bit and installed it on the system. The current kernel does not detect the sound card. Is there anyway i can make this card run on centos? This is a fairly new card, why the stock kernel does not have the driver module compiled from it? Thai -------------------------------------------------- Where...

11kbps narrowband on a 24bit DSP

11kbps narrowband on a 24bit DSP
Hi, I am using speex 1.2beta2 on a 24bit DSP that has a severe program and data space limitations. I am only interested in the speex decoder for 11kbps narrowband implementation. I am using the following parameters and structures 160, /*frameSize*/ 40, /*subframeSize*/ 10, /*lpcSize*/ 17, /*pitchStart*/...

Idea to possibly improve flac?
...to periods of silence in the stream). So edcast is officialy dead now. But now it is an undead zombie! I talked to the original developer ( Ed ), then removed the legally questionable parts (and windows support), and fixed some issues with vorbis and oggflac encoding, and I even added support for 24bit flac. I'm probably the only guy in the universe listening to streaming 24bit audio, but if anyone wants to join me the code is located here: https://github.com/oneman/edcast2_jack Cheers, -D On Fri, Jan 7, 2011 at 4:19 PM, David Richards <rawdod at gmail.com> wrote: > I might be ab...

24/96 ?
Hi people, looking around for a new audiocard, my eye fell on the M-audio audiophile 2496. It has 4 digital in/out and is 24bit, 96kHz. The sound quality is very good, if I can believe the reviews. <p>My question is: can vorbis do 24bit, 96kHz ? -- --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis...

best params for safe archiving, 192kHz no-lax and w64 support
Hi all, i'd like to ask what the best options are for safe 24bit 96kHz archiving. Currently i'm only using -8 but there are also some other options like block size etc. Can anyone suggest? Also i'd like to ask whether a no-lax 192kHz mode is planned in flac, seems like 192kHz isn't directly supported although flac can compress such rate in lax mode...

wav to flac corruption
...to wav, using --keep-foreign-metadata, and I ended up with a bit-perfect copy of the original BWF. So I was fairly confident that the flac encoding is working correctly, the problem definitely appears to be with the flac players. Unfortunately it seems that the majority of flac players cannot play 24bit files - winamp, windows media player (with flac plugin), vlc, amarok, kaffeine and a few others ALL failed to play the file. I would either get silence, static, or a complete refusal to play the file. The only player that played it successfully was Foobar 2000 on Windows. More seriously from my po...

YA-2496
...with some degradation, I would more or less compress the files to the point where they can fit on a CD, so it'd mean 2-8x compression of mono/stereo files. That would still be much better than any standard CD so I'd be happy with the result. Here comes ogg format. Other than enabling a 24bit-integer format and adding 88.2/96KHz formats to the supported list, what is missing? If I read well the 24/96 post of last year, there were mentions of checking the result quality of the compression & tweaking the compression parameters. I'd be more than willing to do that, once I get m...

what is max and min bitrate supported in OggVorbis?
Hi All, I am planning to implement Ogg Vorbis Decoder on a 24 bit DSP. I have following doubts: 1) What is min and max bitrate? 2)What is max Audio Packet size ? 3)What is the max size of setup header? 4)Any idea how to start for making a 24Bit fixed point reference code? Shall I start with floating point or Tremor or Tremor Low Mem Version? 5) What window sizes in Ogg Vorbis are normally supported for audio portable player? 6) Floor0 is termed to be obsolete, Does this mean non of the commercially available encoder supports Floor0?...

NHW Project - some results
...rrently. I downloaded 20 images from the Internet with rather good quality (mainly faces), I compressed them at high compression -l7 setting with the NHW Project, and on 19 images out of 20, I visually prefer the results of NHW compared to x265 (HEVC)!!! -I can make available these 20x3=60 512x512 24bit bitmap images for those who want, just let me know.- I did not select these 20 images, it was the 20 first rather good quality images that Google Images gave me (I entered the name of an actress...). So I am quite satisfied with these results, and I think now that the NHW Project is (visually) be...

In which release did FLAC support 192kHz sample rate?
...e FLAC encoder did not support our 192kHz wave samples. The test results are as follows: Sample Rate Bit Depth Channels Result 22kHz 16bit Stereo Pass 44kHz 8bit Mono Fail - Noise 44kHz 8bit Stereo Fail - Noise 44kHz 16bit Mono Pass 44kHz 16bit Stereo Pass 44kHz 24bit Mono Fail - Noise 44kHz 24bit Stereo Fail - Crash 48kHz 16bit Stereo Pass 96kHz 16bit Stereo Pass 96kHz 24bit Stereo Fail Unlike our wave tests, the player only supported a handful of our FLAC test files. floating point
Hi, I've tried to find info about unofficial 32bit float support in FLAC, and found several conversations. Most of them were talking about a 24bit limit, but from the manual I guess that this limitation is gone, as it supports up to 32bit integer. So my question is, what would be the best way, or what is a common way to FLAC-encode floating point audio? The first idea is obvious, we have a 32bit float, FLAC supports 32bit integer, and it...

Back to my Xwindows kernel panic
I have a newly built drive with 5.2 fresh install (that I will be cloning shortly) in my DECtop and it is failing with X the same way the upgrade from 5.1 drive did (not too supprising there). In 5.1 X worked. I could startx from init 3 and get into GNOME. Also VNC into the box and have a GNOME screen. With 5.2, I get a kernel panic. Well I guess it is a kernel panic because once I run
