flac conversion
You could also try SoX. It looks like that program could convert directly from FLAC to MP3, but I haven't tried it.
I have a Sound Devices recorder that supports FLAC, but it doesn't play all files from external sources. It's great for recording to FLAC, but not so good for playing files purchased online in FLAC format.

24-bit FLAC Files
Hi, we're a small label in Honolulu, Hawaii, starting up, offering FLAC
downloads of live performances of local artists, and we're wondering how is
the support for 24-bit FLAC files? Our concern is that would it be too
difficult for users to burn 24-bit FLAC recordings to CD? Are there any
simple tools that convert 24-bit FLAC to 16-bit FLAC, or burning
applications that transparently do

runif and sample with reproducibility
Hello,
I would like to sample a population but the result needs to be
reproducible, using 'runif' or 'sample' is the good way to do it but I
can't manage to make the results reproducible even with the 'set.seed'
function.
My aim is that th call to 'sample(1:100,10)' gives always the same result,
how can I do that?
Thanks!

How to collect the Rtools to build packages
After reading the readme.packages file, I would like to install the R tools
in order to build my own packages, but the internet portal
http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/Rtools/ hasn't been working since a few days.
Where can I get the file tools.zip?
Thank you!

OpenSSH 3.4p1 - end of support date ??
For AT&T, looking to find the end of support date for OpenSSH version 3.4
p1.
I am not sure if this software is supported but am looking at all software
used by AT&T to determine end of support dates needed for a 2006 technology
upgrade project.
Any information you could supply would be greatly appreciated.

Problem with vignettes
Hello,
I'm trying to insert a vignette as a word document in my package. After compiling and installing the package, the word file is in the doc directory, but no link in the html
index for vignettes is created. I tried with a pdf file and there is the same problem. It seems that only sweave format files are taken into account, is it normal? Is there
something special to do to take other file

uncompressed FLAC
What dbPowerAmp does is encapsulate the wav file into a FLAC container
without actually compressing it. I guess it can be a bit arguable if you
can technically call it a FLAC file :)
It's like using "Store" mode in RAR, for instance. The idea behing this
"uncompressed FLAC" is to give the FLAC tagging abilities to people who
don't want to compress their files. But

new so-called "FLAC uncompressed" format, e.g.

Arima with an external regressor
Hello,
Does anybody know if the function arima with an external regressor (xreg)
applies the auto correlation on the dependant variable or on the residuals.
In comparison with SAS (proc autoreg), it seems that the auto correlation
applies on the residuals but i'd like to have the confirmation.
I want to estimate:
Y[t] = a[1]*X[t] + a[2] + E[t]
with E[t]=b[1]*E[t-1]
Should I use :

CD ripper software
I've been having problems with Audiograbber, it got the track breaks all
wrong on a couple of CDs. I think it re-used the track breaks from the first
CD when reading subsequent CDs.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good CD ripper? I've also tried
Exact Audio Copy, but didn't get on with it very well.

[sorta offtopic] Removing bad bytes from filenames
I'm moving my Ogg Vorbis collection off of my Linux server and onto my
laptop. I plan on using iTunes to play my collection, but, that's a
whole 'nother can of worms.
I'm having trouble moving my complete collection over because dbPowerAmp
(an application I used to love) made some dumb decisions about naming my
files. For example, in track/album/artist names that contained a

Newbie to Samba - getting '^M' characters from NT into PVCS o n UN IX
Hello Tony,
Samba isn't the 'culprit', just the media used. Samba does NOT insert
anything into the files that you copy over or have an application create
on a samba share.
The issue is that you are using a PC program to check out/modify the files,
and pc os'es (Win/dos, i mean) use crlf as a ascii line terminator. Unix
uses a lf only. So when you view the files with a pc

listening to gsm files
Hello list,
I am having trouble listening to GSM files created by Asterisk using a
browser. I am noticing that some of my users succeed in listening to them
and some others don't. I guess it is something of a codec problem that
does not seem to be installed on all machines (though they are all WinXP).
Anybody knows what one should do to listen to GSM files?
I send files through the

Freeware windows ogg audio CD burner?
Does such a thing exist?
I know I can convert the oggs to wavs and then to the audio CD, but it would
be good to do it in one step.
If there is nothing available right now, are there any freeware /
open-source products in the pipeline?
Thanks
