[crossbow-discuss] Solaris 10 Update 4 support for VNICs
I have a requirement in my current project to support multiple co-located zones on the same VLAN. Our current deployment OS is Solaris 10 Update 4. I''d like to use exclusive IP zones, but I gather the only way to currently have multiple exclusive zones with interfaces on the same VLAN is through the use of VNICs. From my initial look at S10u4, it seems VNIC support been not yet been integrated into that release. Is this correct? Thanks - Andres

Is this correct? That is correct. One option is to use VLAN tagging on several interfaces. Then you can share the NICs with several zones and have multiple zones be on the same VLAN (using different NICs) For example, zone11 on VLAN 101 on e1000g1: add net; set physical=e1000g101001; end zone21 on VLAN 101 on e1000g2: add net; set physical=e1000g102002; end zone12 on VLAN 102 on e1000g1: add net; set physical=e1000g102001; end zone23 on VLAN 103 on e1000g2: add net; set physical=e1000g103002; end Steffen> > Thanks > > - Andres > _______________________________________________ > crossbow-discuss mailing list > crossbow-discuss at opensolaris.org > http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/crossbow-discuss

[crossbow-discuss] Solaris 10 Update 4 support for VNICs
Yes, we discussed this several times, the exclusive IP stacks have been integrated before the complete Crossbow implementation because we and others pressed Sun for a solution. The current implementation allows you to have a private IP stack in a Zone which is tied to a certain VLAN, but you can not use the same VLAN on the Same NIC elsewhere on the same Machine.
