hi how about having more cubes to fly around in 3d space. though at first thought this might appear unessacary as who needs so many desktops? So i thought, why not have special cubes (as well as the original cube of course) and these special cubes, instead of cubes, be 3d metaphric objects for specific tasks such as a radio, or ipod or whatever for music a cinema for movies arcade thingo for games, etc completely animated and able to look at it from any direction (hence the 3d part) this way the whole point of virtual desktops allowing efficiency is enhanced.... consider my idea and implement please...:D thnx -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Probably I'd like to see 4 of these, and movement to them with <control> up. <control>down is really nice as the unfold, so there'd be by default only the movement up. I would not like to have them floating around, but having them fixed, like 4 cubes with configurable amount of sides.. That's nice. There is a problem with backgrounds though. There should be possibility to have different background on those cubes, so that it'd be easy to tell them apart. And it'd be wicked to be able to run e17 on one, and gnome on the other... But that's probably asking a bit much. -- Kalle K?rkk?inen

First I thought of just a simple dock/undock functionality for the cube ... You could kick in a 3d-engine and just map the screen-shots as pixmaps to a cube in this 3d space (what is the name for the space around the cube??). We would then be in a real 3d-engine and could start make plugins for inserting different 3d objects and create an infrastructure for event-handling. When docking with the cube again we get back normal cube functionality. thoughts? -- Rudolf Randal - Simrishamnsgatan 12 A - 214 23 Malm? - Sweden - Phone: +46 (0)76 234 05 77
Hi all, I am experiencing a strange behavior as far as video is concerned. After I first installed xgl and compiz, it was the version that came with suse 10.1, I could play video just fine with XV driver. After some compiz upgrade (to quinns rpm I think), I could only play it with opengl driver, because XV was slow. Now, after the last compiz upgrade (060610 quinn), I can only use XV again, because with opengl I only get a white screen. I am not complaining, my video works (it is better with the XV driver, than it was with opengl) and now Xgl works better that ever, I am just asking, whether this is some kind of setting or something. Thank you for you answer and also thanks for Xgl, I just love it.
The reason for the white screen, almost certainly, is because you are using an nvidia card and have upgraded from the 8178 drivers to a more recent version. It happens with some cards (like my MX 4000), but not all. Hi, thanks for the answer, yes, I am using the new version of the nvidia driver. I was not too much concerned with the white screen though, it never bothered me enough to downgrade, because the video somehow worked. I was just interested in why is it that video sometimes works with the xv direver and sometimes it doesnt, whether there was something, some setting that I could change.
