You can use Which or Whereis to find stuff:
[mshields at matt-test mshields]$ which ethereal
/usr/bin/ethereal
[mshields at matt-test mshields]$ whereis ethereal
ethereal: /usr/bin/ethereal /usr/sbin/ethereal /usr/lib/ethereal
/usr/share/ethereal /usr/share/man/man1/ethereal.1.gz
