Hi all, Just a quick query about something that my manager has asked about. While I have talked with Asterisk people about this before, I forget the actual answer. We currently have an ISDN 30 installed on a Dell 2850, using a single port Digium ISDN card. We would like to add an analogue card, plug our fax machine in and have Asterisk simply detect the fax and pass it through to the fax machine on the Analogue line. I have heard mixed reports from everywhere about this - so I'm just going to ask for people's experiences. Has anyone got anything good / bad to say about this kind of install ? Does it work, not work ? If it works, is it reliable ? Thanks to anyone who has the time to answer this. Cheers, Callum
I was told the other week that the _best_ way to do this was via a channel bank on one E1(T1) port and the have the other E1 connected to the PRI line. But it's overkill for a single fax machine. later, PaulH -- Paul Hales Technical Manager AsteriskIT www.asteriskit.com.au bus: 03 8320 8100 mob: 0434 673 529 Callum McGillivray wrote:> Hi all, > > Just a quick query about something that my manager has asked about. > While I have talked with Asterisk people about this before, I forget > the actual answer. > > We currently have an ISDN 30 installed on a Dell 2850, using a single > port Digium ISDN card. It's small, it's cheap, and once Asterisk gets T.38 support it will be flawless, but our testing with similar matters is that a 1-hop LAN VOIP connection will not cause serious trouble for any fax machine... not even our craptastic Xerox and Canon fax machines (both notorious for not being friendly in the first place). -A.

>- channel bank(s) with an attached fax machine >- combination of iaxmodem and hylafaxI am using both with great success. My measured failure rate this week on inbound faxes using IAXModem + HylaFAX is .003% with just under a thousand recieved. I found the trick with IAXModem is to offload fax RX to a seperate server running HylaFAX and IAXModem, and connect the two with a crossover cable in a private subnet. Also, on 100baseT-FD, I have found bumping up the TXQUEUELEN parameter to 2000 improves reliability, although I don't know why. Lee + Steve you rock.
