How to start a script to complete configuration
Hi, We have a virtual environment based on XenServer. In this environment I defined a template for CentOS 7 servers. I would like to start a script a boot time to complete the configuration of new VMs based on this template. How can I have a script started before any login prompt to ask question to the user to complete the configuration such as hostname, IP address, etc? Thanks, Bernard

Second Insert
I''m having a problem trying to come up with the best way to go about doing something in a Rails app. Here''s the situation: I have a form with a list of check boxes a client can choose from, but my client also wants the user to be able to submit their own item, wich will be saved in the table that populates the check boxes. Does anyone have any insight into this? Thanks a

rdoc, ri and gems
Hi all, I''ve been going over the chapters on RDOC and gems lately. I think we should probably work on making the code in Win32Utils "rdoc" friendly. I''ve started doing this with ''win32-ipc'' as an experiment. This probably means some directory reorganization, because I think gems looks for extensions in an ''ext'' directory, whereas

What's the best way to convert a whole set of file systems?
I am currently running a Windows XP system at home with around 100+ Mb in use over ~400Mb of NTFS file systems. I am installing CentOS 4.4 on it when I change out the mobo/cpu/mem/video combo I just bought. I want to convert all the file systems to (probably) Reiserfs or maybe ext3, but I need to do them one at a time because I only have enough transfer space to accommodate the largest one, or

...ise. A popular model is that the "firstboot" package takes care of this at the first user login, and *nix systems sort of depend on this "logged in users do stuff" model. Even better, use ansible, cfengine, chef, or puppet to automate the task of setting things up. This is the _best_ solution and you will eventually come back to it. But, the darker, cynical part of my brain, the part that says "what, you're cutting down on coffee?" part, said "sure you can". Here's how it _could_ be done. DON'T DO THIS. TURN BACK NOW. Rterm BATCH versus Splus BATCH
I have written a batch file I thought would run in R (for Windows, 1.5.1), but as the documentation suggests, R is different in how it handles BATCH from S-Plus (i.e. not directly equivalent to "Splus BATCH infile outfile errfile"). If the file consists of a list of valid R commands, what's the best way of automating it? Many thanks. STS

Controller Methods gets called twice on single invocation
I have no idea why this is happening but it seems like every method on my controller gets called twice. Here is what it looks like when I call a list using the scaffold code ========================== Processing DepartmentsController#index (for 127.0.0.1 at 2006-02-24 01:05:00) [GET] Parameters: {"action"=>"index", "controller"=>"departments"}

Re: Opteron Mobo Suggestions -- the follies of typical tape backup (it's the 21st century)
...don't work. #1 is dealing with transient power #2 is dealing with the hardware ATA disconnect #3 is dealing with the software ATA disconnect While many carriers claim to solve #1 for ATA, _only_ SATA with its staggered data/power (using the 15-pin power, and not the legacy 4-pin Molex) is the _best_ guarantee. But typically #1 is not that much of an issue, because the carrier does a decent job at this (some better than others though). The big issue with "FRAID" is at #2. A biggie is when you use the master/slave and remove one. But even if you do master-only, how do you take out...

PRI & Fax Passthrough
Hi all, Just a quick query about something that my manager has asked about. While I have talked with Asterisk people about this before, I forget the actual answer. We currently have an ISDN 30 installed on a Dell 2850, using a single port Digium ISDN card. We would like to add an analogue card, plug our fax machine in and have Asterisk simply detect the fax and pass it through to the fax

Debugging Kernel Problems
...lhost.localdomain 3.10.0-229.14.1.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Sep 15 15:05:51 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux) periodically just freezes - completely locks up, no activity, nothing in the logs, just stops dead requiring a power off and reboot. I've really looked around to try and find the _best_ way to set up debugging but there is a lot written about it from a lot of parties but I'm not sure who the definitive source is. I did try booting with the 'CentOS Linux (3.10.0-229.14.1.el7.x86_64) 7 (Core) with debugging' option but that really didn't add anything to finding...

A handful of basic Rails questions
Alright, I''ve been programming with Rails for a little while now, and I really like what I see. I made a simple application for our clients that need to be able to view their personal and contact information, the ports they''re buying through our ISP, and communicate back and forth with us. The thing is - the application is pretty messy because I have been hired as a new

Namespacing Models
Hello everyone, Do you feel it? The little shiver down your spine when you think of "namespacing" in rails? To some thats a common feeling, to people like myself who enforce absolute organization have already thought about the need for namespaces in rails. Now I do understand this is an ongoing effort... to some degree. Controllers and routes, from my experiences work well, that being,
