[Asterisk-Users] Re: Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does /var/run/asterisk.ctl exist?)
Double-check your asterisk.conf file. I did a new build of asterisk and the ctl file was pointing to the /var/run folder. I changed the asterisk.conf to use the /var/run/asterisk folder which is writable by my asterisk user. everything was fine after that. my ctl and pid files are in the /var/run/asterisk folder. Note: if asterisk is failing to make the ctl file, it is also likely to not be making the pid file, so if you are using safe_asterisk to start asterisk, you will have troubles. (ex: safe_asterisk stop, will not stop asterisk) -- -- Steven http://www.glimasoutheast.org "Colin Anderson" <ColinA@landmarkmasterbuilder.com> wrote in message news:E251506D3758AA4882130317D52ACD3215442A@land-edm-hs2.landmarkhomes.net...> the user you are connecting as should have full rights to /var/run/asterisk: > > > http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+non-root > > hth > > -----Original Message----- > From: Erick Perez [mailto:eaperezh@gmail.com] > Sent: Monday, April 03, 2006 9:28 AM > To: Asterisk Users Mailing List - Non-Commercial Discussion > Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does > /var/run/asterisk.ctl exist?) > > > Hi, im running asterisk as another user (user x group x), While trying > to attach to the console I get this error: > [root@centos keys]# asterisk -rvvvvvvvv > Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does /var/run/asterisk.ctl exist?) > [root@centos keys]# > > the file exists and it is: > srwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Apr 1 20:32 /var/run/asterisk.ctl > > Suggestions? > > -- > > ------------------------------------------- > Erick Perez > Linux User 376588 > http://counter.li.org/ (Get counted!!!) > Panama, Republic of Panama > _______________________________________________ > --Bandwidth and Colocation provided by Easynews.com -- > > Asterisk-Users mailing list > To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: > http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users > _______________________________________________ > --Bandwidth and Colocation provided by Easynews.com -- > > Asterisk-Users mailing list > To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: > http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users >

[Asterisk-Users] Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does / var/run/asterisk.ctl exist?)
I ran strace and got this: open("/var/run/asterisk.pid", O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, 0666) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied) open("/etc/localtime", O_RDONLY) = 3 Unable to open pid file '/var/run/asterisk.pid': Permission denied /var/run has root:root permissions.
