This Polycom phone seems to be one of the best on the market for sound quality and features. I have seen on the list that some people have gotten the IP 600 to work with Asterisk. Does anyone have the details of how to get this working i.e. XML phone config files, and any thing else I might need to know. This is one of the best phones on the market. The only problem is getting a hold of anyone at Polycom to get the specs through legitimate methods. I've tried for the last several weeks to reach someone at Polycom to get into their developer program, only to be sent from person to person and never getting a response from anyone. I was able to get the specs and examples from a kind sole on this list and I would be happy to extend you the same courtesy when I get into the office tomorrow. I'm sure you've probably noticed that you can pick these phones up from about a dozen different places on the internet all around $300. It is a great phone, I've been using it heavily for the last two weeks and it works wonderfully with Asterisk. Cisco licensed the technology from Polycom and basically put it in a neatly designed new case with less hard keys) Or am I mixing things up with the IP 500?! Cheers, Siggi
It's odd, they have a relationship with Avaya, 3com and Cisco in the IP realm. The appearance and function of both the IP600 and IP500 are very similar to the cisco products that they are like(7960 and 7940) but the software is very different not to mention that Polycom doesn't even have it's own softswitch to use these phones with. It seems like they will just make phones and leave the switching and gateways up to other people. At least I am partially comforted by the following statement on their website: "businesses can be assured that Polycom and its Technology Partners conduct continual rigorous development and testing to ensure interoperability, ease-of-use, and reliability. In fact, Polycom is developing a complete line of groundbreaking VoIP endpoints that will continue to enhance productivity, save time, save money, and provide enhanced services for all of today and tomorrow's business communications needs." These are great phones and much cheaper than their Cisco counterparts. I hope that they can make their programming information on these phones a little more easily available to us non-multi-billion-dollar-corporations types.
