I have a Cisco 2600 which understands the "gsmfr" codec, which appears to be what Asterisk calls "gsm" -- at least it ends up using it. I also have a PSTN gateway which is speaking ulaw. When the 2600 calls through Asterisk to the PSTN, it negotiates the g711ulaw codec, but when the PSTN calls through Asterisk to the 2600, it seems that Asterisk is doing translation, and it is doing it very badly. I get stuttered, choppy speech which sounds like it's being played back at half speed. My first question is why is Asterisk attempting to do codec translation on this call, and how can I make it stop but still support gsm <-> gsm calls? My second question is, can Asterisk pass unknown codecs along without modification, or is the codec negotiation set up before that happens? It seems that it wouldbe handy to have SIP to SIP calls use G729 even if Asterisk can't speak it itself. --Michael
Somewhat along these same lines, I'm using MS Netmeeting to call the demo "time" and I get no sound or very bad sound when I manually select ulaw in NM. I can connect in OpenPhone , hear the call perfectly, and see that is is using different codecs. Is there a way to give a priority to which codecs asterisk uses? darran ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Graff" <Michael_Graff@isc.org> To: <asterisk-users@lists.digium.com> Sent: Friday, May 02, 2003 1:22 AM Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Asterisk and unknown codecs and GSM> I have a Cisco 2600 which understands the "gsmfr" codec, which appears to > be what Asterisk calls "gsm" -- at least it ends up using it. > > I also have a PSTN gateway which is speaking ulaw. > > When the 2600 calls through Asterisk to the PSTN, it negotiates the > g711ulaw codec, but when the PSTN calls through Asterisk to the 2600, > it seems that Asterisk is doing translation, and it is doing it very > badly. [Asterisk-Users] D-Link DG 104 S does not store settings
I'm having a problem with the DG 104 S. Due to low upstream i would like an other codec instead of the default g711mu of the DG 104 S. Changing it with telnet command ' set coding 1 coding_type g729ab' results in OK Typing show coding 1 displays the correct setting Saving the confing the DG 104 S reboots and during reboot restores all the default settings. I did the same trick on a DG 104 SH (the H323 version) and that one is ok. Q: am i doing something wrong? Does anybody know how to do this? I already upgrade the DG 104 S with the latest firmware Henk Geurts
