Call between G.711 and GSM
*This message was transferred with a trial version of CommuniGate(tm) Pro* Will asterisk actually convert between two different codecs????? ie, a SIP endpoint running GSM and another running G.711? Wouldn't that add quite some latency? I was always under the impression Asterisk did not recompress and was smart enough to negotiate the right codec at each end and just pass through the RTP packets. Dear all, I have Asterisk 1.4 with SIP. I have a voicemail implemented with GSM sound files. The problem is I have IP phones Utopix HyperPhone 202 which support only G.729a/u and G.723.1 high/low, but not GSM. If I choose G.729A the "pass-throu" calls among users are OK, but Asterisk can't transcode GSM to G.729A in voicemail calls. My company doesn'y want...

GSM Cards for Asterisk (UK)
Hi, I am currently building a 1.4.4 Asterisk box for a client and they are interested in GSM functionality. Does anyone have any experience with a GSM card, preferably Quad Span (4 GSM modules or higher) for use in the UK. I have seen the Junghanns* version but I am not keen on the limitation of having to use a BriStuffed version of Asterisk. Do Digium make one ? as I am unable to...
