I have installed my own version of R1.1.1 under my home area.(the system version being 0.90) but I been having problems launching R especially with large .RData files. For example starting R in a directory with a 1.7M RData file puts a heavy load on the CPU and disk and after 10 minutes I kill the job with ^C a message says R : Copyright 2000, The R Development Core Team Version 1.1.1 (August 15, 2000) R is free software and comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. You are welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions. Type "?license" or "?licence" for distribution details. R is a collaborative project with many contributors. Type "?contributors" for a list. Type "demo()" for some demos, "help()" for on-line help, or "help.start()" for a HTML browser interface to help. Type "q()" to quit R. Fatal error: unable to restore saved data (remove .RData or increase memory If I try with R --vsize 30M, it does the same with perhaps extra thrashing of the disk. I am running Debian Linux 2.2.17 on an intel PC with 80M of RAM. Is there any thing I can check to help sort this problem? I didn't have the problem with the older version of R.
