1.6 Which architectures does Xen support? Xen currently runs only on the x86 architecture, requiring a ''P6'' or newer processor (that''s any Intel or AMD x86 CPU purchased in the last five years). Multiprocessor machines are supported, including basic support for HyperThreading (SMT). A port specifically for x86/64 is in progress, although Xen already runs on such systems in 32-bit legacy mode. In addition a port to the IA64 architecture is approaching completion. We hope to add other architectures such as PPC and ARM in due course. Anyone know the progess? Is there an "unstable/test" i can use? thx ------------------------------------------------------- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. I ask this because I have a very broken driver for an ADSL PCI card (source driver, not binary, luckily) - it does not like SMP at all, and I am guessing it does not like 64-bit any more. So unless I come up with a way to use that card on a 64-bit host, I can''t upgrade. -- Naked ------------------------------------------------------- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. Of course you can run 32-bit apps over the 64-bit guest OS using the existing compatibility layer. We will also probably support 32-bit unmodified guests running in fully virtualised mode on Xen64. -- Keir ------------------------------------------------------- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. Fully virtualized? Would this be with the upcoming VT-extensions or would this be possible on any AMD64 available today? Or does Xen64 mean Xen on IA-64 (ie. Itanium etc.)? If running unmodified 32-bit guests with reasonable performance on any x86_64 host is possible, that would be an absolute killer feature. -- Naked ------------------------------------------------------- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. Full virtualisation will indeed require technology such as Intel VT or AMD Pacifica. -- Keir ------------------------------------------------------- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users.
