Hi all, Is it possible to have CIM on linux or not? Does any one have any clue about from where can i download CIM for LINUX. And how does it work over Linux? I have a fully virtualized system with FC6 as a host OS including xen 3.0.3 and SuSE10 as a guest OS. Now i would like to know is it possible to have CIM in SeSU 10 ? Please also let me know if there is any good site from where i could gain information about the same. Any or all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in adavance... -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/CIM-%40-LINUX%28XEN%29-%28FC6-or-SuSE-10%29-tf2894255.html#a8086298 Sent from the Xen - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

For cim and xen there''s an extra mailing list, called xen-cim and a wiki page, but it''s very small: http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenCim Henning _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Thanks for reply, i guess the link that you gave me could be of some help as that presentation includes many link for tutorials and all, ill go through it. I didnt realized that it could be confusing to guess what is CIM..so for those who are not sure what CIM is -> CIM = Common information model. Like for windows OS there is CIM-WMI (Common Information Model- Windows Management Instrumentation) which retrieves information from the hard drive. But i am not sure if there is something like this for linux. After lot of research i could find out one site i.e. http://www.openpegasus.org/ But there is a download option but i couldnt find anything to download. If any one knows about CIM, and from where can i download then pls do share your knowledge. As for any other apps on Linux that have nothing to do with Xen: wrong mailing list. -- Christopher G. Yeah i know there is nothing to do with Xen to have CIM. But as i am not sure wether it is possible over Linux or not. And if its possible then my concern was to have it install over my SuSE10 guest operating system on top of Xen in FC6. So this way there is some connection with Xen here. May be i am wrong here, but to make it sure i started this thread under this list. So you said CIM is not supported on XEN by this do you want to say its not possible to install CIM over guest OS which are installed on top of XEN ? Thanks for your reply.... -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/CIM-%40-LINUX%28XEN%29-%28FC6-or-SuSE-10%29-tf2894255.html#a8088327 Sent from the Xen - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

A company using Xen as its core, and *trying* to follow (at least through UML) is www.3tera.com (AppLogic), which is based on (I think) Xen 2.0.7 A more confusing question to answer your question is CIM as applied to what? By saying CIM on Linux you''re also alluding to SMASH and other standards, which have yet to be considered much less evaluated by most distros. Like any other standard this is achieved in milestones. The new Xen API based on xmlrpc is a good start, but I have no idea if XenCim is targeting that, xenfs, or .. what. There are thousands, and thousands of packages to consider, most unrelated to Xen that have to conform (together) to meet that standard, if I understand it correctly. Without forking over $$$ to DMTF, I really can''t get to the ''meat'' of what they''re doing other than the academic papers, which I have neither time nor inclination to read, so I could be misunderstanding it a bit. When you say ''it'' install over suse, which part of the standard are you referring to?> >_______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
I am referring to WBEM packages here. Even i have not a full knwoledge about it yet. Well like in Windows you have CIM-WMI to retrieve information from hard drive so i am looking for something similar over linux OS.
