HI I have got a paravirtualised system with fedora core 6 and xen3.0.3 installed. Now as i know i cant install windows OS over paravirtualised system, i am trying to install SuSE linux enterprise edition on top of XEN. But i am not getting how to install it as i think i cant install guest OS using CDROM, i have to give network path. where i am confused. As when i put the OS cd in cdrom i am not able to locate the contents of that CD whereas if i place any other cd in cdrom, i get a new folder over dektop with all the contents. after running this command # /usr/sbin/virt-install i get a list of questions, out of which i am not getting 2 ques.. 1.) What would you like to use as the disk? 2.) What is the install locaton? what path do i have to give exactly as it supports nfs, http and ftp... Any you can install it from DVD. On the DVD there''s also a manual with a chapter on XEN. Maybe not the best manual, but something to read.> As when i put the OS cd in cdrom i am not able to locate the contents of > that CD whereas if i place any other cd in cdrom, i get a new folder over > dektop with all the contents. What about manually mounting the DVD. Could it be you put a DVD in a CD drive? [...] Ulrich _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Thanks for replying wel i am trying with a dvd, and yeh its a dvd rom but i cant see the contents of that dvd . its only the case when i put any OS dvd in dvd rom whereas if i put any other cd or dvd it creates a folder on desktop and i can view its content. I have to install SuSE LINUX over xen but i really cant sort that out .In FC6 manual its written installation must be a network type. It is not possible to install from a local disk or cdrom. It is possible to set up an installation tree on the host OS and then export it as an NFS share. Do you have any idea how to do that? thanks -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/problem-with-installing-linux-Ent.-over-XEN-tf2754023.html#a7697796 Sent from the Xen - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Then use Yast/Software to "add an installation source" (e.g. that NFS directory). Then you can install software without DVD (automatically from NFS). "rug sl" will show your current sources. manually mounting the dvd looks to be a good option but unfortunately i dont have any experience with creating iso image on Fedora Core 6, do you knw the commands for that and is it possible to install SuSE Linux OS over XEN using its ISO image, if yes then could you please explain me how? thanks a lt Ulrich Windl wrote:> > On 4 Dec 2006 at 6:49, anant wrote: > >> >> HI >> I have got a paravirtualised system with fedora core 6 and xen3.0.3 >> installed. >> Now as i know i cant install windows OS over paravirtualised system, i am >> trying to install SuSE linux enterprise edition on top of XEN. >> But i am not getting how to install it as i think i cant install guest OS >> using CDROM, i have to give network path. where i am confused. > > SLES10 is installed from DVD, not CD-ROM. Something like this: dd if=/dev/hdd of=~/myimage.iso bs=512 [/dev/hdd is the device that is your cdrom, which may be a different device in your system]. However, if you have a para-virtual system, that''s not really going to help you a whole lot, as you need to essentially install the files needed to run Linux on in a "image-file", and you can''t use the ISO to do that in PV-mode, only in HVM. As I''ve said before, there are quite a few different web-sites, so if you search in google for "installing paravirtual linux xen" you''ll probably find more than two pages that are good hits... -- Mats> > Ulrich Windl wrote: > > > > On 4 Dec 2006 at 6:49, anant wrote: > > > >> > >> HI > >> I have got a paravirtualised system with fedora core 6 and xen3.0.3 > >> installed. > >> Now as i know i cant install windows OS over > paravirtualised system, i am > >> trying to install SuSE linux enterprise edition on top of XEN. > >> But i am not getting how to install it as i think i cant > install guest OS > >> using CDROM, i have to give network path. where i am confused. > > > > SLES10 is installed from DVD, not CD-ROM.
