What actually solved your issue? I am having the same issues with booting 
U domains. I''ve gone through everything that was mentioned in the post
and
still no success. It''s almost as if the host doesn''t even see
the ttylinux
image. I have verified the paths, kernel options, everything<I think>.
Anyone?

Ok, I should have continued browsing the list archives a bit more... 
though, I''ve been reading for probably 3-4hrs straight between archives
and google! The problem was having DevFS compiled into the kernel for 
domain U. I''ve removed DevFS from the kernel, and it magically boots
fine
now.
