Hi there Just wondered when Xen 3.0 was going to be released, is there any official timescale ? It still says July 2005 on the website. Thanks _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
The roadmap appears to have been updated, it now states: The next major release of Xen will be 3.0, originally scheduled for July 2005, but now looking more like early October. -----Original Message----- From: xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com [mailto:xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com] On Behalf Of Andrew Turnbull Sent: Thursday, September 08, 2005 3:33 AM To: xen-users@lists.xensource.com Subject: [Xen-users] Xen 3.0 Hi there Just wondered when Xen 3.0 was going to be released, is there any official timescale ? I''m relatively new to Xen stuff but I''ve seen a lot of references to xen3.0. If I want to start playing with Xen 3.0, where can I get the sources? Do I have to sign up somewhere? Just curious. At least superficially all materials there are talking about xen 2.0 (or alternatively 2.0.7) and not 3.0. I''ve seen people mention 3.0, and that it''s in testing. I guess the source tarballs for 2.0 testing are really for 3.0? I guess it''s not very clear (to me at least) where 3.0 is. Most of what comes up from a search for 3.0 is some ppt slides on architecture, roadmap, and some messages regarding a release schedule. -MikeK On Sep 24, 2005, at 12:01 PM, DEMAINE Benoit-Pierre wrote:> did you search on http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/Research/SRG/netos/xen/ ? > > where else any one would ? > > -- > DEMAINE Benoit-Pierre (aka DoubleHP ) http://www.demaine.info/ > \_o< If computing were an exact science, IT engineers would not > have work >o_/ >_______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
You''ll want the xen-unstable sources which are pre-3.0. :-) gino On 9/24/05, Mike Kowalchik <mike.pk@gmail.com> wrote:> > At least superficially all materials there are talking about xen 2.0 > (or alternatively 2.0.7) and not 3.0. Follow the README instructions, and most definitely check the kernel configs before you spin them. Also more of us are lurking in ##xen on freenode all the time. The latest source is very usable and perfomance on my domU''s is excellent. I have 2 very fat domU''s and 5 light ones on an SMP Athlon running unstable. I personally bumped into the 3.0 limitation that you can''t allocate PCI devices to other domains, so I had to go back to 2.0. Is there a list somewhere that gives detailed differences between 2.0 and 3.0? I am not sure about this. I think you can allocate pci devices to other domains using pci = ... in domain config file, no? Of course it has to be a privileged domain. -Himanshu Ron Arts wrote:> > > Ted Kaczmarek wrote: > >> On Sun, 2005-09-25 at 11:32 +0200, Ron Arts wrote: >> >>> I personally bumped into the 3.0 limitation that you can''t >>> allocate PCI devices to other domains, so I had to go back >>> to 2.0. >>> >>> Is there a list somewhere that gives detailed differences >>> between 2.0 and 3.0? >>> >>> Ron >> >> >> Is their a bug open on this? >> > > Uhm, I didn''t create one, because there is a mail from > Ian Pratt where he basically said: um, yeah we are aware > of that, but nobody has had the time to fix it yet. > Apparently an API needs to be create to let domains > communicate with dom0 to request PCI devices, and > dom0 needs to have some way to prevent his own drivers > from loading. > > Ron > >> Regards, >> Ted >> >> > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > _______________________________________________ > Xen-users mailing list > Xen-users@lists.xensource.com > http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users-- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Himanshu Raj PhD Student, GaTech (www.cc.gatech.edu/~rhim) I prefer to receive attachments in an open, non-proprietary format. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Yes, but in 2.0 you also have to hide that PCI device from domain0, and give the parameter ''physdev_dom0_hide=(xx:xx.x)'' to the xen command line when it boots. Xen 3.0 does not know the parameter physdev_dom0_hide any more, because PCI enumeration was moved from xen to dom0. Ron Himanshu Raj wrote:> I am not sure about this.
