That wouldn''t be a better name because an etherstub is not a crossbar
or switch and doesn''t claim to be one. The switching itself is done by
the MAC layer, and the virtual switch is created implicitly when you
have more than one MAC client on top of a MAC instance/NIC. So the
etherstub is just that, a pseudo/stub device which you can use instead
of a physical NIC to create VNICs. In both the physical NIC case and
the etherstub case, the switching is done automatically as soon as you
have more than one MAC client (e.g. VNICs or IP/dld/dls) on top of one
of these MAC instances.
