[zfs-discuss] Mac OS X 10.5.0 Leopard ships with a readonly ZFS
# zfs list ZFS Readonly implemntation is loaded! To download the full ZFS read/write kext with all functionality enabled, please go to http://developer.apple.com no datasets available Unfortunately, I can''t find it on ADC yet and it seems that it was removed by Apple: "Another turn in the Apple-ZFS saga. Apple has made available a developer preview of ZFS for Mac OS X with read/write capability. The preview is available to all ADC members. From the readme file: "ZFS is a new filesystem from Sun Microsystems which has been ported by Apple to Mac OS X. The initial (10.5.0) release of Leopard will restrict ZFS to read-only, so no ZFS pools or filesystems can be modified or created. This Developer Preview will enable full read/write capability, which includes the creation/destruction of ZFS pools and filesystems." Update: Will it ever end? The release has been pulled from ADC by Apple." I can''t wait to reformat all my external 2.5 drives with zfs. This message posted from opensolaris.org

it would seem that the reason that it''s been pulled is that it''s installed by default in the release version (9A581) - just tested it here, and willikers, it works! ''Connect to iSCSI'' is also missing from the final build 9A58. They might enable it later or maybe there is some undocumented preference settings to enable it. strings * |grep -i iscsi iSCSIConfigurationMenuItem iSCSIController configureiSCSI: Also a lot the NIB files also have mention of iSCSI. I''ve not tested it yet though. Another related piece of news. It seems they''ve ported the Solaris automounter too. When I did a df I noticed an entry "map auto_home ... /home" and there is a file called /etc/ auto_home. I added an entry for my home directory on my Solaris machine and hey presto, it mounts automatically on the Mac. This is great. Krister

I''m also very interested in getting this going, it''s frustrating having Apple ignore what a big selling point for Leopard this is! Kugutsum, could you drop me a line so we can discuss? joe (at) penski {dot} net This message posted from opensolaris.org
