Gluster users - Feb 2014 - Should hardware raid vendor tools be turned off?

As of recently I've been getting alot of split brain scenarios in my 4 
distri-replic. brick gluster environment.
>From the system logs I glanced over and saw this message regarding the 
vendor's raid feature.

[root at omhq1b4f ~]# grep -i patrol /var/log/messages

Is the community consensus to turn off all vendor raid feature added 
tools?

RAID is useful, some use it, some not, depends from case to case. I for 
one host my bricks on one big RAID6 (also lsi, it can be stupid at 
times, like switching from write-back to write-through in some scenarios 
and hitting me hard performance-wise).
