Gluster users - Feb 2014 - Is replica data usable by clients?

Suppose you have a vol made up of 4 bricks in a replica 2 set, so brick 2
is a replica of brick 1 and brick 4 is a replica of brick 3.

Now if brick 1 is unavailable for whatever reason, are clients able to use
the data directly stored on the replica? Or the data in a replica brick is
just used to heal/rebalance/recreate bricks?

Hi Elias, 

Online replica's will be used to satisfy client requests. You'll
typically see a delay when accessing files, while the cluster determines that
the node/brick is dead, and then access resumes using the remaining brick(s).

gluster tracks updates against the online replica, such that when the other
brick returns self heal can get to work and catch up with the changes on the
other brick.

Does that make sense?
