Hi, Is there difference in speed and size of water splashes in water plugin between software and hardware implementation? If it is, is it supposed to be so? wolf -- Bartek . - Napisa?e? ju?, ?e sto?y rozwalasz? However, how fast the water is updated can't currently be controlled so if the software code can't keep full speed it will run slower, which I think is the case most of the time. It's not easy to adjust the speed in the algorithm I use for the water but having it run multiple times when it's slow should probably work OK. -David

[compiz] Water plugin don't run error message: GL_ARB_fragment program is missing
Hi All I'm new to this list, this's my problem: I'm trying to use the compiz water plugin, but when xgl starts (or when i try to use the plugin) there's this error message: compiz: water.c: GL_ARB_fragment program is missing and both water effects don't run. This is my plugin list: gconf, decoration, wobbly, fade, minimize, cube, rotate, zoom, scale, move, resize, place, switcher, water This is my configuration: Hardware: Gainward GeForce TI 4200 agp 4x fast write and sba enabled Looking at this table seems that my card supports pixel shaders 1.0 and OpenGL 1.4: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_NVIDIA_Graphics_Processing_Units Software: Gentoo 2006.0 kernel 2.6.16-r9 media-video/nvidia-glx-1.0.8762 (0) media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.8762 (0) xgl-0.0.1_p20060619-r2 compiz-vanilla-0.0.13_p20060624 P.S.: Exscuse me for the bad english...

So it is a problem with mesa right?Mesa supports GL_ARB_fragment_program with indirect rendering, I might have pushed a patch into Mesa at some point to make it work but it must have been some time ago so mesa 6.5 and later should be fine. ATI's and nvidia's GL libraries probably don't support GL_ARB_fragment_program with indirect rendering so an application linked to those will not see this extension even though xgl supports it. compiz must be linked to mesa's GL library to work anyhow so it shouldn't be a problem there. -David
