Apparently there is only an Itanium client for RHEL according to APC? I need to setup a few boxes to shut down safely and don't know if the PCNS 2.2.3 Linux version will do it? Anyone know why it needs Java as well? (Blegh) Assuming APC is fairly popular, how do you guys shutdown your CentOS boxes with a UPS with a management card in it? Thanks! jlc -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/attachments/20080206/e39db31c/attachment.html>

>I use apcupsd from epel > >-RossReading about that now, it sounds a lot cleaner then that silly java based one from APC. Can you elaborate on how you add it as a device into the UPS and share a config in this scenario? Thanks! jlc
Well I'm not near the config, but I remember it was easy. The default timings match APC's defaults, so all you really need to do is set the UPS name (for identification purposes) and the comm type will be snmp, port will be something like <hostname>:161:<community> and set an email address to send alerts to. Testing is a little tricky as it dials directly in to the snmp interface, you could lower the "time on battery" and kick the plug on the ups and see if it initiates a safe shutdown, but that depends on how many other hosts are on the ups and if this host is in active production. It has worked in my environment though. -Ross ----- Original Message ----- From: centos-bounces at centos.org <centos-bounces at centos.org> To: centos at centos.org <centos at centos.org> Sent: Wed Feb 06 18:50:23 2008 Subject: RE: [CentOS] PCNS for CentOS and APC ups's>I use apcupsd from epel > >-RossReading about that now, it sounds a lot cleaner then that silly java based one from APC. NUT supports a wide range of UPSs, and OSs, and has a client/server model. It also has a nice web interface for monitoring UPSs(see the status of lots of UPSs all at the same time. I hacked up the CGI and embedded it in the main page of my home server - https://portal.aphroland.org/ Also supports temperature and humidity sensors available in an expansion card in the APC UPSs. Also if you happen to be using nagios there is built in support in nagios's plugins to check a NUT server for UPS status. Been using NUT myself for about 8 years now. Mostly on APC UPSs, but also Cyberpower as well. nate
