I''m looking for a rails host and the two that seem to be the most popular are textdrive and dreamhost. Has anyone had any experience with any of these and have any comments? Is tehre a better host that I have missed? cheers paul -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. Hi Paul, take a look at http://www.railshostinginfo.com for more Rails hosting companies. I quite recently launched this site, because a couple of months ago I was doing the same as you are now. Searching for a good Rails host. If you come across some good Rails hosting companies, please suggest them to me. And once you have chosen a hosting company, please write a review about them at railshostinginfo.com. Thanks and good luck with your search. BTW: I''m always looking for people to submit a review about the hosting companies that are already on the site, so it becomes easier for people like Paul to choose a good host. I want to hear from you! I''ve header Textdrive is expensive. Dreamhost allows lot''s of domains and mysql databases You might also check out webmasters.com. Their control panel is full of easy to install apps. Dreamhost is awesome! I''ve had them for about six months. Never had a problem...even when they were having outages. I highly suggest them. They are all up to date with ruby and rails. Also have some cool gems installed. If you want to sign up....just travel over to http://www.dreamhost.com/r.cgi?203990 and then you can enter the code RUBYGROUP to get the $50 dollar activation fee waived. After that the package I have is only $10 bucks a month. I can add as many domains as I like and you get more space than you should ever need. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. Installed ruby/gems locally (no real need, but hey why not, with 200GB of disk :P ), no issues so far, pretty fast on the ping even considering I''m in the UK. Check out http://retailmenot.com for discount codes (I believe I used ABW97). railsplayground.com I _can_ vouch for (13 months), great service. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. I''ve been using Site5 for the six months and they''ve been really good. Quick to respond to tickets and there''s a lots of helpful people on their forums. Unlimited domains, mySQL databases, SSH etc for about $5/month (you have to pay 12 months up front though). -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. I''ve been using Dream Host for other things and recently started installing Rails apps for exploration and live websites. I set up one client on a DreamHost VPS...never again. Shotty Rails support, buggy FCGI. I host all my sites on Rimu now, dedicated or VPS. Although I will say Engine Yard and RailsMachine both look nice as well. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. Hello guys, just wanted to set something straight. Sorry I should have openly stated that Dreamhost gives a little kick back to those who refer. That is a link with my referral code, but I do in fact use and love Dreamhost. I''ve never had any trouble as far as Ruby and Rails goes. Plus at the first of the year they went through and made sure that all things Ruby, Rails, and gems are up to date. So go check them out...I recommend them. You can go straight to http://www.dreamhost.com or you can use the promo code RUBYGROUP and save a little money. Textdrive doesn''t rock anymore, their samurai task is so over zealous and the servers are unreliable and over priced. Maybe they give better service on non-shared -I don''t know as I haven''t risked it- but I am in the process of dumping them for Site5 (shared) and RimuHosting (VPS). Site5 has been reliable and cheap (I have only had 1 1/2 hour outage in 6 months) and RimuHosting are very cheap and seem to be really helpful. I do like Textdrives community, but that doesn''t replace poor hosting that seems to have been stuck in a timewarp whilst they push their joyent (parents product) thing. I would much rather they invested their resources in making a decent hosting offering rather than diluting it with office productivity stuff I don''t want. i would go to the webhost that has RoR as a primary service. hostingrails has been awesome in getting me up to speed on my rails app. tech support is quick, and they offer a bunch of services. if i can get a site up and running with all kinds of plugins, anybody can! -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group.
