Rails - Oct 2005 - capturing render output into a variable

Is there a way to capture the output that render sends to the browser in a
variable? I''m looking at implementing a variation of a livehelp system
that
will go something like this:

1. customer clicks a click-to-call-for-support link on the website.
2. Business initiates a call to customer, and when customer answers connects
support agent to customer.
3. Agent has obtained the session id of customer during this process
(details on how this is done left out for now), and registers with the
server that all pages rendered to customer should be displayed in
agent''s
browser window.
4. Using ajax agent''s browser window polls server for customer events
and
displays them.
