Anyone using RadRails here? How is it if so? I am trying to use it and it opens fine on my win2000 box at work, but I have XP pro at home here and it keeps telling me I need the javaw.exe in the bin file in the radrails folder in my desktop. If anyone knows why this is it would be appreciated. I''m a noob for sure. Thanks, J
Jason, I''ve just downloaded RadRails, it''s an Eclipse based solution. Nice idea, very easy to get up and running! It is running fine on my WindowsXP Pro. You need java 1.4 to get it running. If you have it and it is not your default java_home. Create a shortcut to radrails.exe with -vm c:\full_path_to_javaw.exe Alessandro -----Original Message----- From: rails-bounces-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org [mailto:rails-bounces-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org] On Behalf Of Jason Pfeifer Sent: segunda-feira, 3 de outubro de 2005 22:33 To: rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org Subject: [Rails] RadRails Anyone using RadRails here? It''s pretty good. I already had setup Eclipse on my WinXP laptop using this tutorial http://dathompson.blogspot.com/2005/07/rails-on-eclipse-31.html so RadRails saves you from going through all that. Does Eclipse not have syntax definitions (i.e. color coding) for .rhtml ? Well, RadRails has promise, but I still think I''ll stick with my Eclipse hackery for a bit longer. This is exciting to see that others are doing the part that I can''t figure out (actually INTEGRATING the tools) I''m making a patch to install my version on top of an existing Eclipse installation but it''s 50MB and so I don''t know where to host the file. I''m just waiting for this: http://www.activestate.com/Products/Komodo/ Next 3.x release is going to support Full WebBrick debugging!!! Haven''t bought it yet, but certainly will THE DAY it''s released! --Steve
I''m using radrails on my winxp sp2 box and I''m not having that problem. I find there is javaw.exe in C:\system32\javaw.exe along with java.exe. I find radrails a little obtuse and unfinished, but workable. I mainly used it as a text editor. I''d probably be just as happy with scite or jEdit. I don''t get the advantage of the whole eclipse project/workspace thing beyond just having a list of files. The jEdit dialog box for finding files is a little nicer. I also don''t like the long startup time of radrails. I tend to use the rails commands on the command line and the windows gui interface for svn, so the whole point of radrails is escaping me. Also, the essential eclipse documentation, like how to use the text editor, is missing. I tried to move some text with the mouse and couldn''t figure out how, had to use ^X,^V. And I couldn''t figure out how select a rectangle of text, that is, a column. But radrails hasn''t lost data or crashed. Warren Seltzer

The jEdit > dialog box for finding files is a little nicer. The reason I''m using Radrails instead of jEdit at the moment is source control integration. Eclipse''s Synchronize view is a godsend for letting me easily review my changes before committing.> I also don''t like the long startup time of radrails. Eclipse (and thus RadRails) subversion integration is great, and it means one less window to keep open. I find I don''t tend to use the rails commands from the commandline, rather just create the new files by hand as I need them. So I''m down to Radrails + console for tests. I am still waiting for a better way to run tests though. The ''create an external tool to run them and display results in the console window'' is inferior to the jUnit test runner they have in eclipse''s JDT. - Jamie> Also, the essential eclipse documentation, like how to use the text editor, is missing.
